The large number of absent skaters shows to me that allround is definitively gone. Even if this Heretic Samalog for next year will be withdrawn. As much as I regret it, the Single Distances will be the only thing left.

This is the first allround tournament for dutch speedskaters in 2015/16... A tournament included in the single distance championships was mentioned as a selection for the ECh.
The norwegians, russians, held a real AR tournament, poland with a 3000m, swings was not present at belgium champs, austrian was diminished to 1 selectable speedskater... It's finished ...a last farwell to the european allround tournament.

I donÂŽt know if she isnÂŽt in her best form on the longer distances.
She did not skate any yet (I donÂŽt think she will this season) but usually she is one of the best. Only time she failed was at the Olympic qualification tournament when she came back from a serious illness.
Anyway she is in topshape on the shorter distances.
In the Netherlands by far the strongest on 500 (used to be her weakest distance), 1000m and 1500 (1,2 seconds ahead of Wust) in a race she was not at all satisfied.

I still have this idea, and it is maybe very naive nowadays, that the best skaters should be in allround championships.
But what I do see is that these good skaters turn away from allround more and more. The no. 1 of the Adelskalenderen doesn't do allround for years anymore. More and more skaters focus on their favorite single distance and skip allround, And it is all very understandable, most of them get their money from the national Olympic Committee and they ask for results at the WCh Single Distances.


Come to this, that in a lot of countries the qualification time limit is made by so few skaters. Well, Germany has some skaters to choose from and come with a B-team: no Beckert (2x), Geisreiter, no Pechstein, Ost, Dufter...


And even when skaters make this not very strict time limit, they don't show up! Where are you, Eva Lagrange, Johanna östlund, Elena MÞller, Jelena Peeters, Viola Feichtner, Raluca Stef; Nils van der Poel, Viktor Thorup, Stefan Due Schmidt, Alexis Contin, Bram Smallenbroek?


At least, the skaters (and/or their federations) do not make a statement with this behavior that they want to preserve the ECh as it is.
