It's obvious that many of us sadly miss the Uni-Koeln awards. Hopefully the voting will take place before next season begins...

But in the mean time - let's focus a little bit on the Norwegian speedskating teams. Just like for the last couple of seasons, most of the major skaters are either training with a federation team or with the "Norges SkÞyteakademi" team.

NORGES SKØYTEFORBUND (federation teams)

(«speed» - A)
Espen Aa. Hvammen (1988), HÃ¥vard H. Lorentzen (1992)

B
Hege BÞkko (1991)

C
Martine Ripsrud (1995)

(long distance / allround - A)
Ida Njåtun (1991), Håvard BÞkko (1987), Sverre L. Pedersen (1992)

B
Sindre Henriksen (1992), Simen S. Nilsen (1993)

C
Sofie K. Haugen (1995), Thomas SÞfteland (1990), Ole B. NÊss (1991), Magnus M. Kristensen (1996)

A = the federation covers all costs
B = must cover costs of travelling
C = must cover all costs themselves

Coaches’ coach: Finn Halvorsen
Coaches: Sondre Skarli, Edel Th. HÞiseth, Jeremy Wotherspoon

(Junior - sprint)
Julie N. Samsonsen (2000), Ane B. Farstad (2000),Odin B. Farstad (1997), BjÞrn Magnussen (1998)

(Junior - allround)
Camilla W. Evjevik* (1998), Ragne Wiklund (2000), Marius Bratli (1997), Vetle Stangeland (1997), Allan D. Johansson (1998), Jonas N. Kristensen* (1998)

There are cool pictures of all skaters on this website:

NORGES SKØYTEAKADEMI

The final team announcements are nowhere to be found right now, but this is what I believe are the NSA teams for this coming season:

(middle distance / allround)
Ellen Bjertnes (1994), Camilla Lund (1994), Inga Anne Vasaasen (1996), Ida Sanderud (1996), Fredrik van der Horst (1989), Kristian Vårvik* (1992), Fredrik Nybråten (1994), Kristian Aabakken (1996), Kristian Reinton* (1996)

(sprint)
Hanne Haugland (1991), Martine L. Bruun (1996), Christoffer F. Rukke (1988), Henrik F. Rukke (1996)

The NSA teams will be training a lot in Inzell, and there are several skaters from Poland and other countries on the teams as well as Norwegian ones.

Last year's coach Wotherspoon has transferred to the NSF (se above), and there was quite a fuzz about this earlier this summer. More information on that:

ESTP
This ISU-sponsored project for NEO-seniors will have 5 skaters from Norway this season:
Camilla Lund (1994), Marte Vatn (1994), Anders B. Furnée (1993), Runar N. KrÞyer (1995). Those were all part of the project in 2015/16 as well.

OTHERS:

Aleksander Waagenes (1991) will be training with the socalled Team Pechstein (coach: Peter Mueller).

Espen Tveit (1991) has announced his retirement from top level skating. Simen Kroken (1992) and Johann J. SÊves (1994) were not offered renewals of their spots on the federation sprint team.

Two skaters have withdrawn from the teams I described earlier.

A few days ago, Håvard BÞkko announced he is taking a "break" from the national team after 12 seasons. He is not leaving entirely, but for now he is not able to compete at the level he is used to from the old days.

Yesterday, Hanne Haugland from the NSA team annouced her retirement from speedskating. She has suffered from heart problems since January, and so she is sadly not fit to train as hard as she should to keep skating.
